scarves. huge scarves.

if there is one accessory that this girl cannot live without, yup, you guessed it....
it's a big, cozy scarf.
you could even call it my security blanket.
whether i'm simply running out for a latte and a magazine in lululemon leggings, uggs and a parka; headed to class in combat boots, a maxi skirt and leather jacket; or out on the town in booties, leather leggings and a faux-fur cardigan.... yes, I am wearing a scarf.
it could be my tried-and-true military-green, thermal version from aritzia; a black infinity style from american apparel that goes with absolutely anything; a classic black and white houndstooth wrap from club monaco; or the newest [and current favorite] addition to the collection-
a massive cream, red and teal wool option from tna.

feather skirt.

yess!!
the incredibly coveted "clarice" skirt by club monaco shall soon be mine!

my lovely friend [who works for cm] showed me their holiday lookback back in the humid days of summer, and ever since i've been lusting after this piece. the second sign i needed it? when my boss at flare had it brought in for christmas shopping guide and made it clear that every fashionista needed this in her wardrobe.

so, come october i got an email from club monaco saying the skirt would be in select stores. i quickly ran to the bloor street location and sadly enough, it was not yet available in canada. i impatiently waited another month, and yes, it finally was available to us up north.

now wait, surely after such desperate measures, it could not be so easy. only the eaton centre location was lucky enough to stock this beautiful feathered dream, and i soon got a text from said lovely friend mentioned earlier, and only size zero's were left. what could i possibly do now?

i scoured online and found that shopbop was carrying the skirt, although i really did not want to pay in american dollars, along with added shipping costs, the lack of cm's 20% student discount and the fact that it may not fit upon arrival.

my last possible option..... i went to the queen west location and had them do a country-wide search. ah-ha! one left in my size in this enormous country i call home. a store in quebec has one and is shipping it to me this week!! finally! my hard work has paid off :)

fall forecast.

hi bloggers! i've been slacking a little bit lately - (sorry!!) but it's summer and i've been a busy lady!
with that said, i think it's best to discuss what comes after summer.... that being, my favorite fashion season of them all: autumn.
finally we can free ourselves from the horrible smog, the heatwaves, the sticky sweat. it's almost time to layer! to wear cute jackets! to put our boots back on and tuck our leggings and tights in them! the colors get darker and the materials get cozier!
i'm sure not all of you are with me on this one, but for all of my fashion friends, i know they agree, fall is the most fabulous.

topping my list of finds for fall two-thousand and ten are:
-a badass, yet girly pair of combat boots (come on, they will go with absolutely everything!)

-long sleeve crop tops (keeping the cropped trend alive, but making it a bit more accessible to those cooler temperatures that will soon be upon us)

-faux fur (i've got my eye on a beautiful faux fur vest from club monaco, once their f/w stock hits the floors)
-fringe bags (picked myself up a black vintage one in halifax, that is covered in not only fringe, but tons of gold and silver studs)

-comfies (yup, leggings -leather or cotton-, trousers and harem sweats are back my friends)

some ladies that i feel deserve some recognition for their stylish ways as of late are:

lo bosworth - working a long sleeve tee in with her summery shorts and wedges

lauren conrad - keeping with the summer mini, but the super long sleeves and army green hue make it perfect for fall

rachel bilson - cropped tee and slouchy pants couldn't look cuter

jessica szhor - stunning in her white skinnies, wedges and amazing peacock earrings

lastly, head mistress (a toronto based company that specializes in fashion forward accessories - anything from hippie head bands, fur cuffs or feathered hair clips), has debuted their f/w 2010 line and it is full of faux fur!! my personal favorite is the edgar lake faux fur headband. girls of toronto: you need to get your hands on one of these super cute pieces before they're all gone... you've been warned.

sweet, sweet summer.

well hello there fellow fashionista's and fashionist-er's ;)

i'm not sure about all of you........ but thank goodness i have air conditioning and a pool or i don't know if i could hold up in this heat wave that's taken over our city of Toronto. the only fashion statement one can make in this beyond-balmy weather is one that consists of a sexy swimsuit, flat sandals, a pair of sunnies and a straw fedora [mine in order would be from victoria's secret, aldo, urban outfitters and club monaco]. toss on a long and breezy maxi or a cute mini at night if you're going to brave the heat!

i'm still in summer school, and at least i'm studying fashion or i don't know how i could possibly give up tanning by the pool. i'm currently working on a trend board [for my history & trend forecasting course], and since we're in the midst of a sweltering summer, my inspiration is going to be beachwear! once it's all finished i'll post photos. i did my first major persuasion speech and...... for the girl who was previously semi-crippled by anxiety, but has now discovered a new-found confidence, got a 93%!! i was so happy after my speech and am delighted that my research and perseverence paid off :)

this week Christian Dior and Chanel have been showing their S/S 2011 pieces on the Paris runway, and both Blake Lively and Jessica Alba made appearances, sporting a dress by each designer at their respective shows:

Blake Lively shows off her refreshing fashion taste in cream Christian Dior [my absolute favorite part of the outfit is her cute little hair piece!], and then looks absolutely island-pretty in a pastel Chanel frock

Jessica Alba looks adorable in a pastel print Dior haute couture summer dress, and then beautifully pulls off a white Chanel dress with waist-cinching red belt, and stunning black lace booties

last but not least, i've got to give Nikki Reid, a la Twilight, props for this precious outfit: a loose fit floral dress, with a trendy black-studded cross-body bag, and purple suede heels...

lots of love,
sammy xx
